Capital Obesity Groups aim is to assist you in your journey to a healthier life by the use of surgery and supported lifestyle changes.

The team at Capital Obesity Group consists of Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Dietitian, Counsellor/Therapist, Nurses and Lifestyle Coach.  The team is dedicated to help you achieve your goal and maximise results.

 
Surgeon - Simon Bann

Simon Bann is a London trained Upper GI and Laparoscopic Surgeon with a special interest in baratric and advanced laparoscopic surgery.  He works as a specialist upper GI surgeon both at Wellington and Wakefield Hospitals.

He has published extensively in a number of areas including assessment of surgery, new technologies in surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery.

Surgeon - Kusal Wickremesekera

Mr Wickremesekera was educated in New Zealand and went to secondary school at Scots College in Seatoun, Wellington, where in his final year he was Proxime accessit to the Dux. He completed his medical school training  in 1991 through the University of Otago. He trained in bariatric surgery with Professor Richard Stubbs at Wakefield Clinic, Wakefield Hospital.

He undertook full time laboratory and clinical research on the topic of obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes and was conferred a PhD in Surgery through the University of Otago.

He has a special interest in obesity surgery (particularly laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy), gastro-oesphageal cancer, benign tumours of the upper GI tract, cholecystectomy (gallstone disease), hiatus hernia, liver and pancreatic tumours, hydatid disease.

Counsellor - Elisabeth Stubbs

At Obesity Group we strive to achieve the best possible outcome for each of our individual patients. This includes providing a counselling service of at least six sessions to address the many changes that may occur as a result of bariatric surgery.

Our counsellor, Elisabeth has a number of years of experience and a particular interest within this specialized field.

Dietitian - Angela Phillips

Angela Phillips is the dietitian for the Capital Obesity Group.  Angela chose Nutrition as her career due to her passion for health and fitness, and her love of food.

She is a New Zealand Registered Dietitian and has studied her Nutrition degree at Otago University, followed by a Post Graduate Diploma via Otago distance learning based in Christchurch. She has extensive experience in weight loss and enjoys working with clients to help them achieve their goals using practical ideas that work for individuals..

Anaesthetist - Paul Dalley

Paul Dalley is a specialist anaesthetist working at Wellington Public and Wakefield Hospitals. He trained in Anaesthesia in New Zealand and Australia and has gained further sub-speciality anaesthetic experience while working at the University of Washington in the USA.

He has areas of special interest and expertise in Anaesthesia for upper abdominal cancer and Gastrointestinal surgery as well as surgery for obesity and metabolic problems.

Lifestyle Coach - Sarah Prosser
Sarah Prosser is the Capital Obesity Group’s life style coach. Initially study at the New Zealand Institute of Sport in Wellington, her passion for health and fitness grew and she moved to Vancouver to continue studies through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Sarah has an astonishing drive to inspire and encourage others. She strives to help educate, motivate and support her clients enabling them with the skills they need to achieve their goals.
